Apres un super sejour en Amazonie, retour a Quito chez Raque pour un dernier week-end dans la capitale, ou je retrouve enfin mon ami Colin, de San Francisco, encore une fois un ami de Montpellier, qui etudie a Quito depuis quelques annees! On passe une petite soiree tous ensemble en ce14 fevrier, mais biensur j'ai l'esprit ailleurs en ce jour de Saint Valentin xxx !

After that great trip in Amazonia, back to Quito at Raque's place for a last wkd in the capital, where i finally meet my friend Colin, from San Francisco, met once again in Montpellier, who is studying here since some years! We spend a nice evening all together on 14 february but, of course, my mind is somewhere else for this Valentine's day xxx!
Indeed, the Otavaleños have been obliged, in the conquistadors' time to practise weaving, and still today they are practising this, which make them one of the most prosperous indigene tribes of all America!
The indigenous Otavaleños are now famous for weaving textiles, usually made of wool, which are sold at the famous Saturday market. Although the largest market is on Saturday, there is a very wide range of wares available throughout the week in the Plaza de los Ponchos, and the many local shops. Otavalo was an area made up principally of farming communities, but with the growth of tourism, the town has begun to focus more on the making of handicrafts which have made the Saturday market a popular stop with visitors to Ecuador. Tourism has become the town's main industry and as a result there are many more hotels, hostels, and tour operators than other similarly sized Ecuadorian towns, such as nearby Cayambe.
We enjoyed a lot the market, going there at the beginning just to have a look, and leaving it with a lot of articles...

Dimanche, c'est journee marché a Otavalo, l'un des plus grands et fameux marché traditionel de toute l'amerique latine!
En effet, les Otavaleño furent, a l'epoque des conquistadors, contraints de se faire tisserands, et aujourd'hui encore il pratique le tissage, activite qui en fait l'un des peuple indigene les plus prospere d'Amerique du sud!
La notoriété des artisans locaux est l'une des raisons qui fait de la ville l'un des sites touristiques les plus fréquentés du pays. Le grand marché du week-end, conjugué au charme colonial du centre ville et à la beauté des alentours, ont permis à Otavalo d'atteindre un niveau de développement économique supérieur à celui de la plupart des autres régiojns d'Équateur.
La beaute et l'originalité des articles en font le bonheur des touristes... Pensant y aller pour regarder surtout, nous finirons par devaliser les artisanats...
